Elena Brasen retires from La Pequeña

One of Pine Hill's treasures, retiring after many years' sewing service to our community.
A delightful human, and full of helpful advice on any number of topics.
Elena has been a presence on Main Street for decades.
Her shop featured beautifully crafted sewn and crocheted items.

NOT TOO FAR FROM HERE: CENTRAL CATSKILL VIEWS

                                ROBERT AXELROD

I have been painting in the Central Catskill region for thirty years, Spring, Summer, and Fall. I paint plein-aire that is, directly, on-the-spot, out-of doors.

Landscape painting has its challenges: rapidly changing skies and light, wind, bugs. Some touch-up and re-statement of pictorial elements may or may not take place in the studio. The immediacy of the painting experience can be very gratifying. If the finished paintings convey the quality of a time and place, it’s worth the effort.

The images on display were painted in this general area. In some ways, they are generic, in others quite specific. We are fortunate to have such lovely variety and beauty surrounding us.

317 was once the hamlet center, with the post office and general store, a hardware-and-paint store. In the 1930's it became a vegetable store; after that, 'Frieda's' or 'the old liquor store.'  It is now home to Pine Hill Notes.
